While the title states that this book is specifically for children, it is worthy of examination by people interested in art of all ages. The author presents seven of Leonardo's works with critical examinations of the structure of the painting, the relational geometry of the various sections as well as the value of the specific detail of various components. They are:

*) The Lady With the Ermine
*) Mona Lisa
*) St. Anne, the Virgin and the Infant Christ With a Lamb
*) Portrait of a Musician
*) Female

This book is a brief and effective lesson in putting together a complete painting so that all the different sub-images complement and reinforce each other.
Da Vinci was an incredible individual, perhaps the most talented and accomplished person that ever lived. Although it is short, this book gives the reader a solid background in just how good he was as a painter.

This informational book includes easy to understand facts about Da Vinci's life and work as an artist. Specific technical information regarding particular pieces of his work are examined and provide the reader with a deeper understanding of both art and the genius of Da Vinci. Illustrations include several pieces of artwork by Da Vinci comprised of both paintings and sketches. This is a fantastic book to include in a study of inventors or artists. I would recommend this book for children 9-14.

This was a short and sweet Leonardo art overview. This was a part of a home school unit study. As far as the book is laid out, I loved it for my child with reading difficulties. Short subjects and tidbits of information about the artist and the man Leonardo were just enough. Along with some of his famous paintings, the book includes drawings and sketches from Leonardo's sketchbooks. Oh the mind of this man! This was a short and sweet Leonardo art overview. Recommends it for: children, art lovers
This Art For Children series is an excellent way to introduce children to art & artists. Such an accomplished man and that is written about here, but, alas, nothing of his vegetarianism or philosophical opinions about the treatment of animals, but no book is perfect.
